Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management University, Sikkim (EIILMU) under the provisions of its State Legislative Act No. 4, 2006, Sikkim has established an exclusive collaboration with National Centre for Internship & Studies (NCIS) to offer Collaborative Industry Based (CIB) education and research programs.
The CIB Education research and training programs are regular industrial internship coupled with theory based face-to-face contact programs.
NCIS is Authorized to establish and approve new Collaborative Industry based Internship Points(CIIP) for facilitating student enrollments into the university. The CIIPs are authorized to conduct the Internship / Training / Research programs as recommended by NCIS.
Collaborative Industry Based Education is most contemporary noble concept derived by National Centre for Internship & Studies (NCIS), to integrate the component of industry in education. CIB Education is just not a formality of giving industry exposure to students; rather it is a full-fledged industry experience to students with their studies. CIB education enables students to obtain the basic and all functional knowledge of the industry in which they wished to work.
The purposive of every education is to obtain factual knowledge and employment. Study incapable of providing suitable employment and knowledge to a student is fruitless. Our present educational system hardly contains industry component in it. In this competitive environment the difference between education and industry is widening day-by-day. This creates difficulty for young alumni to adjust themselves in industry. Sometimes it took many years to transform them in through professionals. Without proper guidance many students get distracted from the actual goals to proceed with their career, and choose unknowingly & unporposly different profession from their basic qualification. This education to profession dropout, yields wastage of resources provided by Government & Private Sector besides the most significant years of Study of a students life.
Let us consider the field of Engineering where we are struggling with the deficiency of engineering professionals despite of having thousands of engineering colleges in the country. Why? Due to directionless efforts of present education system most of the young engineering alumni shifts themselves to some other industry, unwillingly. The reasons may be many, like lack of direction for a proper start, dissatisfaction from industry, understanding of work etc. Only 5% of the engineers leave the field because of genuine grounds. Remaining 95% leaves the filed because of the reasons, like they do not know how to start or they do not know how to adjust in industry or they do not have the basic understanding to work in industry. Every year at least 50% of the engineering graduates leave the filed, i.e., the education to profession dropout of engineering filed is more then 50%. This loss is besides the manual hrs wasted to educate them for their precious four to six years. This process can also be observed in other educational models like Arts, Commerce,Science, IT where industry integration is negligible.
On contrary in filed of Medicines this education to profession dropout ratio is not more then 5%. Why? Yes, just because of the real time training with studies. All medical students are required to attend practicals, compulsory internship within their study curriculum. This industry exposure is quite similar to the futuristic circumstances which they require to face, when they will work as an independent professional. Also, they got ample opportunities to work under highly specialized senior professionals. The result itself shows the success story of this education model.
Conclusively, we are 95% sure that a student will choose the same profession in which he/she has studied if, they get a chance to undergo internship within studies compare to less then 50% surely of a student to go in the same field of studies for the programs where industry interaction is not the part of academic curriculum.
CIB education is an effort to make such an educational model which is similar to the industry integrated model like in medical education. CIB education will be given to students with real industry working experience. This serve dual purpose; the student will obtains precious work experience besides the academic knowledge.
Conclusively, CIB education is only tool which can fulfills the demand of modern industry and serve country in a better manner.
